Dec 20, 2007 Meeting Notes:
The Community’s inception is the result of a challenge issued at the Dec 11, 2007 Cat-Strat Convo. The challenge,
raised at the event by David Akers, was to build a team for the purpose of conducting broad-reaching discussion-event
(s). One(s) which would help stretch thinking (and potential applications) associated with a new Convention Center in
Cleveland.
Foundational concept: Think “Center” first - - i.e., a place where Conventions and/or MedicalMart activities occur… but
much more. A place that can be leveraged 7X24. It is believed that a broad-reaching public discussion could help
surface new ideas & strategies; Ideas and strategies which could help & assist the entities & individuals currently
planning the potential Center & its use. Said discussion & input event(s) would engage multiple voices + would
educate the attendees on topics such as conventions, “destination management” and more.
A number of concepts were raised at the meeting regarding the Community’s potential overall & long-term
purpose/function. Ultimately, the team arrived at the idea that it could serve as a “process developer” - one which
would build mechanism(s) for Civic Engagement, Citizen Dialogue and 2-way information-sharing primarily as it
relates to major place-development projects (beginning with the Convention Center). The Community Action-Team
could also serve as an “energizer”, “expediter”, “big-thinker” and “translator” within the context of civic-voice capture &
communication.
Outcome: It is believed that the team can help civic planners and major-project teams arrive at incremental
approaches, and achieve community “consent” by way of an authentic 2-way informed information-sharing process.
Draft process concept-flow-chart will be availble
here soon.
